BEIJING: China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi has appreciated Pakistan’s constructive and consistent diplomatic efforts in promoting peace and stability in the Middle East as Islamabad intensified diplomatic outreach to end the US-Iran war.

Wang Yi made the remarks during a delegation-level talks with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar in Beijing on Tuesday, according to a statement issued by the Foreign Office.

“On the evolving situation in West Asia, both sides underscored their shared commitment to peace, stability, and dialogue, and issued a Five-Point Initiative aimed at promoting regional peace and stability,” it added.

The meeting was held, featuring hours of engagement from restricted talks to delegation-level discussions.

“The two sides reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral relations, exchanged views on regional developments in West Asia, and discussed a wide range of issues of mutual interest,” the Foreign Office said.

As Pakistan and China mark the 75th anniversary of their diplomatic relations this year, both countries reaffirmed their firm commitment to further strengthening their All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership.

They emphasised advancing high-quality development, deepening economic and strategic ties—including under CPEC 2.0—and enhancing high-level exchanges and cooperation across all sectors.

Both sides also reiterated their close coordination at multilateral forums and agreed to maintain regular and sustained engagement.

The visit underscored the enduring warmth, mutual trust, and “iron-clad” friendship that continue to define Pakistan-China relations.

Shared commitment to peace

Ishaq Dar, in a post on X, underscored the two sides underscored their shared commitment to peace, stability, dialogue, and diplomacy as the path to resolving challenges.

“Together, we mutually agreed and issued the Five-Point Initiative of China and Pakistan for Restoring Peace and Stability in the Gulf and Middle East,” he added.

“Our conversations from restricted talks to delegation-level discussions, followed by a warm and gracious dinner, extended over three hours of substantive, thoughtful, and forward-looking exchanges,” he said.

He added that the Pakistan–China All-Weather Strategic Partnership continues to flourish.

Five-point peace plan

Earlier, Pakistan and China agreed on a comprehensive five-point framework aimed at restoring peace and stability in the Gulf and Middle East, following high-level talks between Ishaq Dar and Wang Yi in Beijing on Tuesday.

The two sides called for an immediate cessation of hostilities, the initiation of dialogue among all parties, protection of civilians and critical infrastructure, ensuring the security of key maritime routes, including the Strait of Hormuz, and upholding the principles of the United Nations Charter to achieve lasting peace in the region, according to a statement issued by Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry.

Pakistan steps up diplomatic efforts

Pakistan has intensified diplomatic outreach to de-escalate the Middle East conflict, positioning itself as a key intermediary between Washington and Tehran.

On Sunday, Pakistan hosted a quadrilateral meeting attended by Pakistan’s Deputy PM Dar and foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, and Egypt for key talks on the Middle East conflict.

The meeting called for an immediate and permanent end to hostilities.

Briefing the media after the meeting, Dar said both the United States and Iran had expressed confidence in Islamabad’s ability to facilitate dialogue.

He added that Pakistan would be “honoured” to host negotiations aimed at ending the conflict.

The initiative has received backing from China and the United Nations Secretary-General, according to Dar. Earlier today, Ishaq Dar was received by Wang Yi at the Diaoyutai State Guest House in Beijing for high-level talks focused on regional developments.
