MIRPUR, Bangladesh: Bangladesh national cricket team secured a comprehensive 104-run victory over Pakistan national cricket team in the opening Test of the two-match series on Tuesday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, taking a 1-0 lead.

Resuming the final session at 116-3, Pakistan were eventually dismissed for 163 in 52.5 overs while chasing a target of 268, with fast bowler Nahid Rana producing a match-winning spell of 5-40.

Pakistan’s innings got off to a poor start after Taskin Ahmed removed opener Imam-ul-Haq for just two runs in the opening over.

Debutants Azan Awais and Abdullah Fazal then steadied the innings with a valuable 54-run stand for the second wicket before Mehidy Hasan Miraz dismissed Azan for 15.

Pakistan suffered another setback when Nahid Rana removed captain Shan Masood for two, leaving the visitors under pressure.

Fazal continued to fight with a composed 66 off 113 deliveries, striking 11 fours, but Taijul Islam trapped him lbw shortly after tea.

Salman Ali Agha contributed 26, while Mohammad Rizwan and Saud Shakeel attempted to rebuild with a brief partnership.

However, Nahid Rana struck repeatedly to dismantle the lower order, dismissing Saud, Rizwan and Noman Ali before cleaning up Shaheen Shah Afridi for a duck to seal victory.

Earlier, Bangladesh declared their second innings at 240-9 after captain Najmul Hossain Shanto top-scored with 87 and Mominul Haque added 56.

Pakistan’s bowlers, led by Hasan Ali and Noman Ali, claimed three wickets each.

Bangladesh had earlier posted 413 in the first innings through strong performances from Mominul Haque (91), Shanto (101) and Mushfiqur Rahim (71).

Pakistan replied with 386 despite a century from Azan Awais and useful contributions from Fazal, Salman Ali Agha and Rizwan.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz starred with the ball in the first innings, taking 5-102.
