ISLAMABAD: Peshawar Zalmi captain Babar Azam has responded to concerns surrounding his team’s bowling issues ahead of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11, emphasising that the franchise has taken concrete steps to strengthen the department through recent signings.
Speaking at the PSL 11 captains’ conference in Lahore, Babar was questioned about Zalmi’s ongoing bowling struggles and how the side plans to manage the limited availability of overseas pacers Shoriful Islam and Nahid Rana.
In reply, he acknowledged that the team had faced difficulties with their bowling unit in previous seasons but expressed confidence that improvements had now been made.
“Yes, definitely, the bowling attacks that we were struggling with in previous seasons, this time, we have fixed that [with our signings] and will try to execute the plan,” Babar stated.
Squad strength
He further highlighted that success does not depend solely on squad strength but rather on effective implementation.
“The main thing is to execute plans. No matter what kind of bowling [stocks] you pick, if you do not execute plans, then it is of no use. So, by the will of Almighty Allah, we are focused on executing [our plans].”
Despite being one of the most consistent franchises in PSL history, Zalmi have not lifted the trophy since their 2017 triumph. A key issue has been their bowling performance, having conceded totals of over 200 runs on 14 occasions between 2021 and 2025.
The team will begin their PSL 11 campaign on Saturday against debutants RawalPindiZ at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium. With a refreshed squad featuring a mix of experienced internationals and emerging talent, Zalmi aim to address past shortcomings and mount a stronger title challenge this season.
