SYDNEY: Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has said that prospects of signing a free trade agreement with the European Union (EU) are better in the current year than in 2024, Reuters reported on Saturday.

Australian-EU Free Trade Agreement

Speaking in India late on Saturday on the sidelines of G20 summit Anthony Albanese said he had raised the matter with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and planned to raise the issue with French President Macron as well.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said that he would like to see the Australia-EU Free Trade Agreement settled without any delay and as soon as possible.  Australia and the EU started discussion on a trade agreement in 2018 but differences remain especially over the degree to which the European Union will open its markets to several Australian farmhouse products.

Australia seeks more access to the European Union markets for its products much of which are subject to tariffs.
