NISSHIN, Japan: The Asian Games Women’s Cricket Competition will enter its decisive stage on September 20, with Pakistan taking on Sri Lanka in the first semi-final before India face Bangladesh in the second match of a double-header at Korogi Sports Park.

The two semi-finals will determine the finalists for the women’s cricket gold-medal match, scheduled to be played at the same venue on September 22.

Pakistan, Sri Lanka to open semi-final action

Pakistan secured their place in the last four after defeating Thailand by three wickets in a rain-affected quarter-final.

They will now face Sri Lanka, who produced a dominant display against Malaysia to reach the semi-finals.

Sri Lanka posted 160-4 in 20 overs, with captain Chamari Athapaththu leading the charge with a superb 63 off 37 balls, including seven boundaries and three sixes.

Kavisha Dilhari also played a key role, finishing unbeaten on 44 off 27 deliveries with six boundaries.

Malaysia struggled to build a response and ended their innings at 74-7, with Athapaththu, Dilhari and Mithali Ayodhya claiming two wickets each.

The winner of the opening semi-final will advance to the September 22 final and move within one victory of the Asian Games gold medal.

India, Bangladesh clash

The second semi-final will see India face Bangladesh later on September 20.

Bangladesh advanced to the last four after their quarter-final against China was abandoned without a ball being bowled because of a wet outfield. They progressed on the basis of their higher ranking.

India, meanwhile, defeated hosts Japan in the final quarter-final to secure their semi-final place.

Japan were bowled out for just 57, with Shree Charani claiming impressive figures of 4-10 from her four overs. Shafali Verma took two wickets, while Deepti Sharma and Shreyanka Patil claimed one each.

India chased down the target after losing two wickets, with Shafali finishing unbeaten on a blistering 40 off 15 balls, including six boundaries and two sixes.

September 22 final to decide Asian Games Champion

The September 20 double-header will leave two teams standing for the gold-medal contest on September 22.

With Pakistan, Sri Lanka, India and Bangladesh securing the semi-final berths, attention now turns to two high-stakes clashes that will decide the finalists in the Asian Games women’s cricket competition.
