SRINAGAR: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has urged the people to observe a strike on Sunday, February 11, to commemorate the martyrdom anniversaries of prominent freedom leaders, Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Muhammad Afzal Guru, in the Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

During a high-level meeting of its Majlis-e-Shoora in Srinagar, the APHC expressed grave concern over the prevailing atmosphere of oppression and suppression perpetrated by Indian forces in the territory.

Muhammad Afzal Guru was hanged in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail on February 9, 2013, and Muhammad Maqbool Butt met the same fate in the same jail on February 11, 1984. Their bodies remain buried within the jail premises.

The meeting paid rich tributes to nearly five lakh martyrs of the liberation movement, highlighting their sacrifices for the sacred cause of the right to self-determination.

APHC appealed to the people of the territory to observe a complete shutdown on February 11 and urged them to visit the martyrs’ houses to express solidarity with the victim families.

The organization emphasized that the sacrifices of Muhammad Maqbool Butt, Muhammad Afzal Guru, and other martyrs would continue to inspire future generations of Kashmiris.

While condemning the inhuman attitude of the Modi-led Indian Hindutva regime, the APHC reiterated its commitment to lead the ongoing resistance movement to its logical conclusion.

The meeting also called upon the United Nations and the international community to press India to recognize its responsibilities as a signatory to the UN resolutions on Kashmir.

Additionally, the APHC urged international human rights organizations to take note of the plight of Kashmiri prisoners of conscience languishing in Indian jails, including Tihar and Agra.

Furthermore, the organization thanked Pakistan and its people for their unwavering support to the just struggle of Kashmiris for the right to self-determination, highlighting the significance of Kashmir Solidarity Day observed on February 5.
