ISLAMABAD: Advocate Raja Amjad Ali Khan, a core committee member and legal adviser of the proscribed Joint Awami Action Committee in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, has announced his dissociation from the group, calling on young people to stay away from activities that could harm peace, stability and their future.
In a video message, Raja Amjad said the original peaceful movement had been diverted from its public welfare purpose and used to target the relationship between Pakistan and Kashmir.
“Our peaceful movement was turned in another direction and used to end the bond between Pakistan and Kashmir,” he said.
Appeal to youth
Raja Amjad said ordinary young people in Azad Jammu and Kashmir had paid the price for agitation while others made arrangements behind the scenes.
“The simple-hearted youth of Azad Kashmir were sent to jails, while deals were made behind the curtain,” he said.
He appealed to young people not to risk their future through confrontational politics.
“For God’s sake, the youth of Azad Kashmir should not sacrifice their future for such activities,” he said.
Rejects anti-Pakistan narrative
Raja Amjad also made it clear that he had no association with any anti-Pakistan voice or nationalist organisation.
“I have no connection with any voice raised against Pakistan or any nationalist organisation,” he said.
His announcement is being viewed as a major setback for the proscribed Joint Awami Action Committee, as he was considered one of its key figures and legal advisers.
Supporters of peace and stability in Azad Jammu and Kashmir said the move reflected growing rejection of propaganda, confrontation and narratives aimed at creating distance between the people of Kashmir and Pakistan.
Raja Amjad’s decision also reinforces calls for public issues to be addressed through dialogue, institutions and peaceful constitutional means rather than agitation.
