ISLAMABAD: Prince Rahim al-Hussaini Aga Khan V, has reaffirmed the Aga Khan Development Network’s continued commitment to supporting humanitarian and development projects in the country during a meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari. Prince Rahim is visiting Pakistan from May 20 to 26.

“The President appreciated the Aga Khan Development Network’s longstanding contributions to Pakistan in healthcare, education, community development, climate resilience and heritage conservation,” said the statement.

Recalling the longstanding association of the late Prince Karim Aga Khan IV with Pakistan, President Asif Ali Zardari also acknowledged the Aga Khan family’s historic contributions to the country.

Prince Rahim expressed gratitude to the President for the warm welcome and reaffirmed the Aga Khan Development Network’s continued commitment to supporting development and humanitarian initiatives in Pakistan.

According to a statement issued by the President’s Secretariat, President Asif Ali Zardari received Prince Rahim upon his arrival at Noor Khan Airbase during his official visit to Pakistan. The First Lady, Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, accompanied the President.

The visit marks Prince Rahim’s first trip to Pakistan since assuming leadership of the Shia Ismaili Muslim community as the 50th Imam, following the passing of his father, His Late Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan IV, in February 2025.

Upon arrival at Aiwan-e-Sadr, a tri-services guard of honour comprising contingents of the Pakistan Army, Pakistan Navy, and Pakistan Air Force was presented to the visiting dignitary, the statement added.

Prince Rahim’s last visit to Pakistan was in 2024, when President Zardari conferred upon him the Nishan-e-Pakistan, the country’s highest civilian award, in recognition of the Aga Khan family’s longstanding contributions to Pakistan.

Prince Rahim al-Hussaini Aga Khan V was named the 50th spiritual leader of the Ismaili community last February, following the death of his father, Prince Karim Al-Husseini, Aga Khan IV, in Lisbon at the age of 88.

Prince Rahim Aga Khan will visit Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral tomorrow, where he will interact with members of the Ismaili community and attend religious and spiritual gatherings.
