JEDDAH: The OIC Observatory for Israeli Crimes and Violations against Palestinians underscores the imperative of tackling ongoing Israeli disinformation campaigns and aggression against journalists ahead of the Extraordinary Session of the Islamic Conference of Information Ministers in Istanbul, Türkiye.
Scheduled for February 24, 2024, the session will convene ministers responsible for information and communication from OIC Member States to strategize collective action against Israel’s targeted misinformation efforts.
Despite international outcry, journalists continue to face grave risks, including killings, harassment, and violence, while reporting on Israeli atrocities in Palestine, particularly in Gaza. Israeli forces deliberately target journalists wearing press identification, resulting in casualties and destruction of media infrastructure. Moreover, Israel employs smear campaigns and cyberattacks to suppress Palestinian voices and control the narrative.
Palestinian journalists, resilient amidst adversity, endure unimaginable hardships, with over 100 killed and many others living in dire conditions without adequate resources or medical care. Despite these challenges, they persist in exposing the Israeli occupation’s genocidal war and amplifying the voices of the oppressed.
The OIC Observatory calls on social and digital media platforms to combat misinformation and uphold Palestinian rights to freedom of expression. It emphasizes the urgency of safeguarding journalists and ensuring their safety amid escalating hostilities.
