LAHORE: President Dr. Arif Alvi inaugurated the Sarwar Shahida Memorial Cardiac Centre and Research Institute on Thursday, highlighting the integral role of Islamic principles in societal advancement and progress.

In his address, he emphasized that acts of charity and benevolence are fundamental characteristics of Muslims, praising those who contribute to the betterment of the nation.

President Alvi’s speech revolved around Islam’s core values of compassion and mutual support among individuals.

He reiterated that while governments may change, the enduring foundation of the nation remains steadfast. Reflecting on the rise of philanthropy among Muslims in Pakistan’s post-independence era, he stressed the important role of individuals in uplifting marginalized communities.

President highlights Islam’s role in welfare service

Drawing inspiration from the exemplary lives of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the Khulafa-e-Rashidin, President Alvi underscored the importance of selfless service to humanity. He highlighted Islam’s emphasis on societal responsibilities, evident from the teachings of the Quran’s opening chapter. He noted that Pakistan’s fundamental objective aligns with the Quranic principles of serving society and nurturing a profound sense of responsibility.

President Alvi encouraged virtues such as charity, honesty, respect for elders, empathy, and cooperation, especially among the younger generation. While acknowledging the government’s role in addressing significant challenges, he emphasized that every individual within the Islamic framework has a role to play in contributing to the well-being of others.

Discussing Islam’s economic philosophy, President Alvi underscored the significance of equitable wealth distribution. He pointed out that Islam discourages the concentration of wealth in a few hands, aiming for a more just and balanced society. The principles of equality, brotherhood, charity, honesty, and lawful earnings form the foundation of Islam’s economic framework.

Emphasizing Islam’s focus on human welfare and its call to support the less fortunate, President Alvi reiterated that the essence of humanitarianism resonates across all religions. He concluded by highlighting Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) unwavering commitment to improving the condition of humanity, urging the nation to follow this example for the progress of Pakistan.

The director of the Sarwar Shahida Memorial Cardiac Centre, Dr. Shoaib Saeed, also addressed the event and highlighted the institution’s advanced medical facilities for heart patients.
