LAHORE: President of Pakistan, Dr. Arif Alvi, underscored the crucial role of artificial intelligence (AI) in revolutionizing the healthcare sector and enhancing patient care.
Speaking at the Instacare Future Health Forum 2023 held at a local hotel, he praised the potential of AI in both health and medicine, envisioning a future where medical graduates could leverage AI for advanced patient treatment.
Pakistan utilized Artificial Intelligence during COVID-19 pandemic
Dr. Alvi pointed out that modern doctors no longer need to rely solely on their memory, as extensive data can be stored and accessed through mobile phones and computers.
Justifying his stance, the President highlighted that Pakistan successfully utilized data during the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in saving numerous lives and contributing to a lower death toll compared to neighboring countries. Emphasizing the value of data in Pakistan, the president stressed the importance of posing the right questions to AI systems to yield accurate answers. He noted the democratization of knowledge, highlighting its accessibility and the challenge of controlling its dissemination.
President Alvi also drew attention to the principles of Islam, which advocate for the welfare of society. He urged the utilization of AI to further improve the lives of individuals, similar to how science has already brought about societal advancements.
During the event, President Alvi honored individuals and institutions that have made significant contributions to healthcare through technology and AI. Punjab Health Minister Dr. Javed Akram, also delivered remarks to the participants.
The forum was attended by First Lady Begum Samina Alvi and a substantial gathering of healthcare professionals.
