LAMPEDUSA: Italian coastguard rescued 57 from Lampedusa besides recovering two dead bodies on Sunday and 30 are still missing.
Two boats carrying migrants from Sfax port in Tunisia wrecked in the troubled waters near Lampedusa. A woman from Ivory Coast and her one year old child dead bodies were recovered from the water.
The incident happened late Saturday as the two boats carried the migrants to Europe with one having 48 and the other with 42 on board.
Lampedusa is the new destination of the migrants as in the last seven days over 2000 people have arrived and were rescued by the Italian patrolling boats near the Island.
“The unsettled waters added with strong wind is the challenge,” said an official.
Coastguards and an NGO Open Arms are active in the island rescuing the migrants who are stuck at different places owing to shipwrecks.

Italy is facing an influx of migrants and so far in 2023, nearly 92000 have been recorded as compared to 42600 in 2022.
