Pakistan Confirms Second Polio Case in 2023

PESHAWAR: A second Polio case during the current year has been reported from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan, an official of the Health Department said here Wednesday.

According to the official Polio type-I virus has been confirmed in a 3-year-old resident of Bannu as the parents of the child had refused to give polio drops, KP Health Department official informed.

The official apprised that the child has been given anti-polio drops just two times during several campaigns and missed the drops several times. Consequently, weakness was identified in the child’s arm on July 11, later identified as a fresh polio case.

First Polio Case in KP

Earlier in March another case WPV1 was reported from the province in the same area. In general, Pakistan has improved this year as last year 22 documented cases were reported in the country, however in the first seven months of 2023 two cases have been reported. However, the country needs to get rid of the issue completely, which required further awareness and measures.
