BEIJING: China’s weather service has issued a red alert for heavy rain in Beijing and surrounding provinces, local media reported on Saturday.
In a statement, the meteorological service said that the alert will be in force from 8 pm local time. It added that it covers an area of several hundred million inhabitants, including Tianjin and Shandong.

Hebei province, which is also expecting gusty wind and heavy rains, has issued the highest level of alert in several areas.
The meteorological service said that the weather service issued a warning that rainfall there could exceed 60 centimetres.
Similarly, authorities in Fujian’s capital city Fuzhou ordered locals not to leave their houses unless necessary on Saturday.
