STOCKHOLM: Sweden’s Security Service (SSS) has wared that the threat of terrorism has increased in Sweden following disinformation campaigns and Holy Quran’s desecration acts fueled hatred against the country across the Muslim world.
SSS said that Sweden is now dealing with the current threats of attacks directed at the country and its interests.
The service was keeping the assessment of terror threat at an “elevated” level of 3 on a 5-point scale.
It said that disinformation campaigns have tried to change Sweden’s image, incorrectly portraying it as a nation hostile to Islam and Muslims, where attacks against Muslims are sanctioned by the state and where Muslim children can be abducted by social services.
Sweden government’s position on Quran desecration acts
Civil Defence Minister Carl-Oskar Bohlin said that the police gives no permits for desecrating any holy books. Instead, the permits are given for organizing public gatherings with no position taken by the government on their motivation.
