Turkish President Erdogan Set to Visit Iraq Next Week

ANKARA: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is set to discuss three important matters with Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, during his first visit to Iraq.

The dates of the visit are not announced yet. However, Iraqi media claimed the trip is scheduled to take place next week.

Iraqi Prime Minister’s Press Office said in a statement that the PM Mohammed Shia al-Sudani received Turkish envoy to Iraq Ali Rıza Gunay and discussed several issues, including President Erdogan’s upcoming visit to Iraq.

They also discussed the orgainsing of a joint economic forum between the two nations in Basra and Turkiye’s participation in the Iraqi development road project.

Visit’s agenda

The issues under discussion are believed to include combatting the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, the resumption of oil exports from Iraq’s Kurdistan Region through Turkey’s Ceyhan port, and the water dispute, according to Iraqi media.

Earlier this year, al-Sudani payed a visit to Turkiye and met with top-ranked officials, where he discussed a number of important issues including joint intelligence cooperation, border security, and information exchange in addition to speaking on the energy and water situation in Iraq.
