MOSCOW: Russia’s Probe Committee says it has initiated a criminal investigation into the killing of a Russian journalist.
The Probe Committee said on its official website that “Armed Ukrainian formations intentionally fired at a group of Russian reporters” in Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region.
Russian officials said journalist Konstantin Mikhalchevsky, and Roman Polshakov and Dmitry Shikov were also wounded in the attack.

“As part of the probe, investigators will establish all the conditions of the crime against journalists, as well as those involved,” it maintained.
Kyiv, which had received supplies of cluster bombs from the US this month, vowed to use them only to remove concentrations of enemy forces.

Earlier, Russia said that the West was ‘responsible’ for the death of a Russian journalist in Ukraine. In a statement, the Russian Ministry for foreign affairs said, “Everything shows that the assault on the group of journalists was not carried out accidentally”.
A Russian war journalist was killed and three were injured on Saturday. Russian Ministry for Defence said the injured journalists were evacuated from the battleground after coming under fire in Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region. It confirmed Rostislav Zhuravlev was killed in the attack.
