BEIJING: As part of a larger initiative to accelerate the development of 5G and lead in the 5.5G era for the information and communications technology sector, Huawei Technologies Co. will release a complete set of commercial 5.5G network equipment next year.
According to analysts, the rapidly approaching 5.5G will be a crucial turning point in 5G evolution. China Daily stated, “The plan comes amid rapid progress in 5G deployment over the past four years that is already yielding significant financial gains.” To safeguard telecom operators’ investments in 5G and boost network performance by ten times, Huawei introduced the idea of a “5.5G Era.”
As service requirements become more diverse, the 5.5G era will offer 10-gigabit peak downlink and gigabit peak uplink speeds. Additionally, it will use cutting-edge innovations like the passive Internet of Things to tap into the 100 billion IoT connections market.
According to Yang Chaobin, president of ICT Products & Solutions at Huawei, “the 5.5G Era is already poised for technological and commercial verification,” he said at the Mobile World Congress Shanghai 2023 in June. “With a clearly defined standardization schedule, the 5.5G Era is already poised for technological and commercial verification.”
To be ready for the commercial deployment of 5.5G, Huawei will introduce a full suite of commercial 5.5G network equipment in 2024. Yang stated, “We look forward to cooperating with all industry stakeholders to start the new journey towards the 5.5G era. In particular, with vast antenna arrays that support 10-gigabit downlinks, flexible spectrum access that enables gigabit uplinks, and passive IoT that can support 100 billion IoT connections, Huawei has been working with numerous players in the industry on R&D and verification of key 5.5G technologies, with significant progress.”
The company claims that “50G PON is another key technology that can enable 10-gigabit speeds for F5.5G ultra-broadband networks and is anticipated to be extensively used in Industry, campuses, and homes in the future.”
The business stated, “Huawei has collaborated with over 30 operators globally on technological verification and application pilots for these technologies.”
According to Huawei, “The industry is still establishing a vision for 6G and has only recently started associated research into critical technologies. This is why 5.5G has become a popular benchmark for future growth. Numerous industries will be able to unleash the productivity of digital technology thanks to the 10-fold increase in network capabilities in the 5.5G era.”
According to information from Huawei, “there are more than 260 commercial 5G networks worldwide, serving over 1.2 billion users.” —APP
