On Saturday, the Saudi foreign ministry expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of a summit between Egypt and Sudan’s neighbors.

On Thursday in Cairo, the leaders of Sudan’s seven bordering countries signed on to a new Egyptian-led attempt to end the escalating crisis in Sudan.

The ministry also issued a statement saying that Saudi Arabia appreciated “the concerted and integrated efforts aimed at restoring security and stability to Sudan, preserving its territorial integrity, protecting civilians, and ensuring the dispatch of humanitarian aid.”

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi convened the meeting, which was the most high-profile gathering since violence broke out across Sudan in mid-April. In attendance were the heads of state from Ethiopia, South Sudan, Chad, Eritrea, the Central African Republic, and Libya.

El-Sisi called on the international donors present “to honor their commitments,” referring to the $1.5 billion in aid pledged at a Geneva conference in June, which was less than half of what was needed to address the needs of Sudan and its immediate neighbors.
