ISTANBUL: President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey expressed his country’s willingness to assist in finding a “peaceful resolution” to the armed rebellion in Russia, according to a statement from Erdogan’s office.

During a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Erdogan stressed the importance of using common sense and emphasized Turkey’s readiness to contribute towards resolving the events in Russia as quickly as possible.

The armed rebellion in Russia involves the powerful mercenary group Wagner, whose leader has been accused by Russia of orchestrating an uprising. In response, Russia issued an arrest order for the Wagner chief, as the internal conflict between rival factions within the Kremlin over the war in Ukraine spilled over into open confrontation.

Wagner Chief Vows to Overthrow Russia’s Military Leadership

Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of Wagner, made a declaration on Saturday, vowing to take all necessary actions to overthrow Russia’s military leadership in Moscow. In a new audio message, Prigozhin proclaimed that his forces would stop at nothing, ready to “destroy everything” in their path. He claimed that his fighters had seized the army headquarters in Rostov-on-Don without firing a single shot and asserted that they enjoyed the support of local residents.

In light of the escalating situation, Russia remains determined to achieve its objectives in the ongoing war in Ukraine, despite the armed rebellion by the Wagner group. Moscow has warned Western countries against exploiting the insurrection for what it deems as “anti-Russian” purposes.
