NEW DELHI: India announced on Monday that Ravi Sinha has been approved as the next secretary at the Research & Analysis Wing (RAW), the country’s premier external intelligence agency.

The appointment of Sinha has been approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. He will succeed Samant Kumar Goel, whose tenure in office ends on June 30, 2023.

According to a government statement, Sinha’s appointment is effective for a period of two years from the date he assumes office, or until further orders, whichever comes earlier.

This appointment comes at a time when the Indian government is committed to bolstering the country’s intelligence apparatus and ensuring a smooth transition in critical positions, particularly in light of recent tensions along the border with China.

Ravi Sinha, a 1988 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the Chhattisgarh cadre, currently serves as the Personal Security Officer (PSO) and Special Secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat (SR).

As the head of RAW, Sinha will play a crucial role in safeguarding India’s interests on the global stage. The Research & Analysis Wing is responsible for leading and coordinating intelligence operations, gathering essential information, and providing valuable analysis to policymakers. Sinha’s leadership will be instrumental in fulfilling these responsibilities.
