WASHINGTON: The US State Department announced on Friday that Secretary of State Antony Blinken would visit the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) next week.

Blinken’s visit comes as Saudi Arabia and the US seek to broker a long-term truce between Sudan’s warring parties in an ongoing dialogue in Jeddah.

State Department spokesperson Matt Miller said, “Antony Blinken will visit Saudi Arabia June 6-8 to hold meetings with Saudi officials. He will discuss US-Saudi strategic cooperation on global and regional issues and a range of bilateral matters, including security and economic cooperation”.

The US top diplomat is set to participate in a US-Gulf Cooperation Council ministerial meeting to discuss cooperation with Gulf partners and how they can promote stability, security, de-escalation, regional integration, and economic opportunities across the Arab world.

Miller said, “Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and Blinken will co-host a ministerial meeting of the Global Coalition to Defeat Daesh “to overcome the threat of (Daesh) and reiterate our resolve to ensure its enduring defeat,”.
