As Washington observed National Memorial Day, Kuwait’s ambassador to the US, Sheikha AI-Zain Al-Sabah, referred to the two countries as having a “lasting bond of friendship and loyalty.”
Tuesday, according to Kuwait News Agency, Al-Sabah addressed the National Memorial Day Parade and expressed her “pleasure to be given the opportunity to represent my country” in a ceremony to recognize the sacrifices made by the US Armed Forces.
“I stand before you today, representing the good people of my nation and reaffirming that we will never forget the human stories of service and sacrifice as exemplified by the brave men and women of the US armed forces on or off the battlefields,” the ambassador continued. “Trust that we value and honor the strong and enduring friendship and allegiance that unites our two nations.”
The two nations’ ties were “forged by war, strengthened by peace, and further nurtured by mutual trust and respect,” she continued. The diplomat praised the soon-to-be-built Operation Desert Storm and Desert Shield Memorial, stating that “a special memorial is getting ready to be constructed in the heart of the US capital, Washington, to further commemorate the efforts of American heroes,” and that it would be unveiled in 2025.
Kuwait participated in the parade with a float that traveled along Constitution Avenue to show its sincere gratitude to those who gave their lives and those who helped in the effort to free the nation.
The procession, which is regarded as the biggest Memorial Day event in the nation, had more than 5,000 participants. “To honor, remember, and pay our respects to all those who served and sacrificed, on and off the battlefield,” Al-Sabah stated, this day was set aside.
