ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan has said that the claim of Interior Minister Rana Sannaullah was nothing but an attempt to hush up horror stories that were about to be divulged to the media.
In a tweet, Imran Khan said: “If there were any doubts about women being mistreated in jails, this press conference from this certified criminal should remove all such doubts. He is so obviously trying to cover up and preempt the horror stories about to break in the media.”
The PTI chief said, “Women have never been so mistreated and harassed by the state as they have been by this fascist govt when they were exercising their right to protest peacefully.”

Earlier, Rana Sanaullah during a late-night press conference, claimed that intelligence agencies had intercepted a telephone call in which a plan to “hatch a raid and rape at a known PTI worker’s home” was being discussed.
The interior minister had alleged that the conspiracy was being planned to later claim that human rights were being violated in Pakistan and atrocities were being committed on the arrested PTI workers.
Rana Sannullah, however, provided no proof to substantiate his claim.
In a separate tweet, the interior minister said, “The country’s agencies intercepted a conversation, revealing disturbing plots and planned actions, including a raid on the PTI leader’s house and a staged rape.”
The country's agencies intercepted a conversation, revealing disturbing plots and planned actions, including a raid on the PTI leader's house and a staged rape. Objective: falsely implicate law enforcement institutions in the crime, aiming to internationalise the issue.

The minister claimed that the objective of the plot was to falsely implicate law enforcement agencies in the crime and raise the issue internationally.
Meanwhile, activist and lawyer Jibran Nasir also questioned the interior minister’s claim.
In a tweet, he said: “Who are the people whose call was intercepted? Who is the PTI leader whose house was the target? How were PTI members planning to stage the raid? Were they going to dress like LEAs & have official gear and vehicles at their disposal or are members of LEAs colluding with them? Don’t you think your statement without any specific details will only work well to discredit any victim who may have real grievances and might have faced sexual assault at hands of LEAs? Isn’t the ongoing crackdown already internationalized with enforced disappearances, repeated arrests, dismantling of a national party and military court trials and Parliamentarians around the world condemning it.’
