RIYADH: The chief of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) on Sunday called for calm in Sudan and an end to all escalation in the African country, Arab media reported. During a meeting with Dafallah Al-Haj Ali, a top official at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jasem Al-Budaiwi stressed the Council’s keenness on Sudan’s safety, security, and stability, preserving the cohesion of the African nations and its institutions and supporting it to face all challenges to achieve the aspirations of the people of Sudan. Jasem Al-Budaiwi lauded the humanitarian role played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and all GCC nations in the current crisis in Sudan.

He also lauded all international and regional efforts aimed at reaching a consensus among political parties, ending the current conflict in Sudan, and achieving security and stability in the African country.

Arab media reported, a humanitarian ceasefire in Sudan was extended on Sunday and will last for three days starting from midnight, the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) spokesman said in a statement.

It may be recalled that hundreds of people have been killed and thousands injured since a long-simmering power struggle between Sudan’s army and the RSF erupted into war on April 15.
