ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Sunday asked PTI to call off its May 1 rally. According to the notice of ECP, the electoral body issued a show-cause notice to the PTI over violating the Election code of conduct. “It is essential to seek the permission of the district administration to hold rallies,” read the notice. The electoral watchdog directed the PTI to call off its May 1 rally.

PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry demanded the Election Commission of Pakistan to revoke its notice by saying, “It is illegal”. Taking to social media, Fawad Chaudhry said PTI was writing to the ECP to revoke its notice, saying that the rally must be permitted to continue according to the schedule. He added “ECP’s actions prove that it is biased,”.

Fawad Chaudhry went on to say that the Election Commission of Pakistan contended that the PTI could not stage a rally on Labour Day. “Socio-political parties hold rallies to express solidarity with labourers and it is surprising to see us barred from doing so on May 1,” he said.
