ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has decided to challenge the interim set-ups in Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa in the Supreme Court.

The caretaker governments in Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa are going to complete their three months on April 22 and 26, respectively. As per the party sources, a constitutional plea will be filed in the top court by PTI leaders Fawad Chaudhry, Mahmood Khan and Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi tomorrow (Thursday).

The plea maintained that an interim government can function for 90 days only as per the constitution of the country and that there is no room for an un-elected government. The plea will urge the apex court to appoint administrators in Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa after completing of the interim governments’ ‘tenure’.

Earlier, PTI on Saturday wrote to President Alvi, regarding the 90-day term of the Punjab interim government. PTI’s senior vice-president, Fawad Chaudhry wrote a letter to President Alvi over the tenure of Punjab caretaker set-up, headed by Mohsin Naqvi. The letter further said that the 90-day constitutional term of the Punjab interim government is going to end on April 22, and the caretaker setup has failed to complete its objective during the stipulated time period.
