Kuwait: Crown Prince Says Elections to be Held Soon

RIYADH: Kuwaiti crown prince said the parliament would be dissolved and that new elections would be conducted in upcoming months, Kuwait News Agency said on Monday.

Kuwait’s Parliament had been dissolved last year and early polls were held in September. However, the court in March declared the polls annulled and restored the parliament.

Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah said that they have decided to dissolve the country’s National Assembly, which was earlier reinstated by the Constitutional Court as per Article 107 of the Constitution of the country. He added that they will call for conducting elections soon.

Sheikh Mishal said that the National Assembly was dissolved as per the will of the people, and fresh election will be accompanied by several political and legal reforms.

Earlier, Kuwait’s Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Sabah had submitted his government’s resignation. Reports said that a new cabinet was also announced in the current month.
