ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s ministry of commerce has said that the rumours about the beginning of the Pakistan-Israel trade were propaganda after the press release issued by the American Jewish Congress, which was misrepresented.

“Even in their press release they (the congress) nowhere mentioned about official trade between Pak-Israel,” said a press release issued by the commerce ministry.

“However, neither we have any trade relations with Israel nor we intend to develop any. Jewish Pakistani Fishel Benkhald has sent food samples to three businessmen in Jerusalem & Haifa through UAE in his personal capacity who he met in foreign countries during food exhibitions,” the press release said.

“Nevertheless, it was not supported by the Pakistan government and neither a banking or official channel was involved either.”

Moreover, “in our talks with the UAE, the issue of the origin will be strictly implemented. The UAE has curtailed tariffs on 96 per cent goods traded with Israel which has benefited traders from UAE to Israel,” it said.
