BRUSSELS: The European Union (EU) on Saturday welcomed the deal between Riyadh and Tehran to restore diplomatic ties, Arab media reported. European Union (EU) external affairs lead spokesperson said that the EU welcomes the agreement on the resumption of diplomatic ties between the KSA and Iran, and looks forward to its implementation. He said in a statement that the European Union acknowledged the diplomatic efforts leading to this key step as Riyadh and Tehran are essential for the security of the region, and the restoration of their bilateral ties can contribute to the stabilization of the entire region.

EU wants to promote peace in middle east
He added that promoting stability and peace and achieving de-escalation of tensions in the Arab world are key priorities for the EU. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Iran agreed Friday to resume diplomatic relations and reopen their embassies within 60 days after years of tensions between the two sides in a Beijing-brokered deal.
According to the Saudi Press Agency “In response to the efforts of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Beijing’s support and cooperation for developing good neighborly ties between Tehran and Riyadh. The three sides announce that an agreement has been reached between Iran and Saudi Arabia ”.

It said, “the agreement includes to restore diplomatic ties, re-open their embassies within 60 days, and the agreement also includes their affirmation of the respect for the sovereignty of countries and the non-interference in domestic affairs of nations,”. The two sides also agreed that the Foreign Ministers of both nations would also meet to implement the deal.
Earlier, Oman also welcomed the statement on the restoration of diplomatic ties between KSA and Iran, Oman News Agency stated. The KSA and Iran also lauded the role of Oman and Iraq for hosting rounds of dialogues that took place between the two sides during the years 2021-2022, the statement stated. Iran and Saudi Arabia also expressed their appreciation to the leadership of China for supporting the talks, and the efforts it made towards its success.
The European Union EU external affairs lead spokesperson said that the alliance remains ready to engage with all stakeholders in the region in an inclusive approach, and in complete transparency.
