US, Pakistan Discuss Boosting Economic Ties, Expanding People-to-people Connections

ISLAMABAD: Counselor of U.S. Department of State Derek Chollet discussed a wide range of issues with Pakistan comprising strengthening of economic bonds, cooperating to tackle the impacts of the climate crisis, and expanding people-to-people cooperation.

“Pakistan and the United States have a robust partnership based on decades of mutual cooperation and support, and we look forward to strengthen our relationship in trade, investment, climate, security, education, clean energy, health, and other shared priorities,” remarked by Counselor Chollet who is here in Pakistan on two day visit along with a delegation of other senior U.S. government officials

After the January 9 conference on Climate Resilient Pakistan in Geneva, Counselor Chollet’s visit provided a chance to learn more about the progress, the country has made so far in response to the floods and how the U.S., other donors and partners can most effectively assist Pakistan’s resilient recovery, stated a news release issued by the Embassy of US in Pakistan.

Strengthening economic ties, people-to-people connections

Meanwhile, the United States has provided over $200 million dollars in assistance provided to support disaster resilience and flood response efforts in Pakistan. This continued support reflects the endurance of the bilateral connections and the long-term commitment of the U.S to Pakistan and its people.

Highlighting details of the visit, the embassy maintained that Counselor Chollet also met Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and discussed strengthening the Pakistan-US bilateral partnership, including increased economic cooperation and Pakistan’s requirements as it continues to recover and rebuild following the devastating floods.

The delegation also met Minister of State for Finance and Revenue Dr. Aisha Ghaus Pasha and discussed economic reform and improving the regulatory environment in Pakistan to enhance foreign investment, including from U.S investors.

The U.S. Counselor also met with planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, where both the dignitaries discussed Pakistan’s flood recovery and upcoming opportunities within the U.S. Pakistan Green Alliance.

The said Green Alliance builds upon the rich U.S Pakistan history of environmental collaboration and will assist both the sides jointly to meet the agricultural, energy, water, and economic requirements of the present and future.

Through the Green Alliance, the two sides will assist each other in strengthening climate resilience holistically, pursue energy transformation, and encourage inclusive economic growth.
