Islamabad Court to Hear Post-arrest Bail Plea of Sheikh Rashid Today

ISLAMABAD: A district and sessions court in Islamabad will hear the post-arrest bail plea by Sheikh Rashid Ahmed in the case of levelling allegations against Zardari, today (Tuesday).

On Monday, the court had adjourned the hearing as the prosecutor told the court that the investigation officer had gone to the high court with the case record and did not return then. Upon this, Judge Umar Shabbir adjourned the hearing till Tuesday (today).

Post-arrest bail plea

The Awami Muslim League chief is currently languishing in Adiala Jail on a judicial remand for 14 days. Initially, Rashid was arrested in a case for levelling allegations against Pakistan Peoples’ Party co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari. The FIR was registered at the complaint of police officials Ashiq Ali from the Aabpara police station, Islamabad.

Just a day later, the Muree Police also registered a case against him on the same charges. According to the FIR, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed threatened the police personnel saying he would not spare them.

The FIR was lodged under Section 154 of the Criminal Procedure Code of (Cr.PC) Pakistan, charging Rashid Ahmed with interfering in the official affairs and resisting his arrest. The FIR read that the former interior minister physically pushed and abused the police officials and threatened them with dire consequences at gunpoint.

An FIR was also registered against Sheikh Rashid Ahmed for using “filthy” language against Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, at the Mochko Police Station in Karachi. The case was registered under four sections of the PPC — including Punishment for defamation), punishment for criminal intimidation, intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace and promoting enmity between different groups. In a similar case filed in Lasbela, Balochistan province, Sheikh Rashid was booked for using “filthy” language against Bilawal.
