GWADAR/ISLAMABAD: The transmission line for importing 100MW of additional power supply from Iran was completed on Monday, according to officials dealing the matter.

The 29-kilometer-long electricity transmission cable has finished its testing. On the instructions of the prime minister and the energy minister, the National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) completed the project on time.

Additional 100-megawatt power supply

According to sources, an additional 100-megawatt power supply from Iran to Gwadar is set to commence in the coming days. The project’s completion will increase electricity supplies in Balochistan’s Makran division by 100MW from neighboring Iran.

Gwadar city would receive continuous power with the addition of a 100 MW power supply, and the Gwadar industrial estate would also receive power. The entire Makran division’s power supply needs are expected to be met by an additional 100MW of Iranian electricity.

Pakistan and Iran agreed in June 2022 to supply an additional 100 megawatts of electricity. In addition, a 132kV transmission line from Jiwani to Gwadar was approved by the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) in June of last year. The 132kV cable will connect Gwadar to the National Grid, reducing the port city’s reliance on electricity supplied from Iran.
