The ceremony, organised with support from the United Arab Emirates under its humanitarian initiative Operation Gallant Knight 3, offered a moment of happiness to couples whose wedding plans had been delayed by displacement, economic hardship and the destruction caused by the conflict.
Held at the Maritime Club, the event was part of the third edition of the initiative, known as “Dress of Joy 3” (Thawb Al-Farah).

Hundreds of family members and guests joined the celebrations as newlyweds danced to traditional music, while decorated wedding cars travelled along the coastal road. Palestinian and UAE flags were displayed during the ceremony, alongside the two countries’ national anthems.
A Celebration Amid Ruins
For many couples, the ceremony represented more than a wedding celebration. Years of conflict, displacement and financial uncertainty had made it difficult for young Palestinians to afford traditional wedding ceremonies and establish new households.

The 250 grooms were selected through a public lottery from thousands of applicants who met the programme’s eligibility requirements.
The UAE-backed initiative, implemented through the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, also provides financial assistance and essential household items to help newly married couples begin their lives together.
One participant described the occasion as a welcome moment of happiness after months of suffering.
“It is a wonderful feeling that the UAE has organised a new celebration for the Palestinian people after all the pain, destruction and suffering we have endured,” he said.
Another attendee said the celebrations offered a brief escape from the hardship facing Gaza’s residents.
“Despite the tears and the tyranny that the residents of Gaza live through, despite that, we are celebrating this day,” the participant said.
Continuing Support
The mass wedding forms part of a wider UAE-backed programme supporting Palestinians affected by the conflict.
Earlier ceremonies included weddings for 54 couples in Khan Younis in December 2025 and 300 couples in Deir Al Balah in April 2026.
Beyond the celebrations, the initiative aims to ease the financial burden on young Palestinians seeking to establish families amid widespread economic disruption and housing shortages.
Gaza continues to face enormous humanitarian and reconstruction challenges after years of conflict, with families struggling to rebuild their lives amid widespread destruction.
For the 250 couples, however, Friday’s gathering offered a rare opportunity to celebrate a personal milestone with their families and communities.
The celebrations served as a reminder that even amid war and uncertainty, Palestinians continue to seek opportunities to build families, preserve traditions and look towards a future beyond the conflict.
