Openers Tom Banton and Ben Duckett provided a flying start, putting together 74 runs before left-arm spinner Dunith Wellalage struck twice in successive overs to remove both batters.
Banton scored a brisk 51 off 50 balls, including nine fours, while Duckett contributed 29 from 39 deliveries.
Following the early breakthroughs, Brook joined experienced batter Joe Root to stabilise the innings and launch a sustained assault on Sri Lanka’s bowling attack.
The pair added 159 runs for the third wicket, with both batters reaching half-centuries before Asitha Fernando ended their partnership by dismissing Root on the first ball of the 38th over.
Root departed for 69 off 66 deliveries, having struck eight boundaries.

Brook and Jacks unleash late-onslaught
Brook continued his remarkable innings after Root’s dismissal, accelerating dramatically alongside all-rounder Will Jacks to dismantle Sri Lanka’s bowling attack in the closing overs.
The duo stitched together a devastating 185-run partnership from just 77 deliveries, ensuring England finished with an imposing total of 429-4 in their allotted 50 overs.
Brook eventually fell on the final delivery of the innings to Janith Liyanage, having produced one of the most dominant individual performances of the tri-series.
Jacks remained unbeaten on 60 off just 33 balls, smashing eight fours and three sixes to complement his captain’s extraordinary knock.
For Sri Lanka, Wellalage was the most effective bowler, claiming two wickets for 56 runs in his 10 overs. Fernando and Liyanage picked up one wicket each, but the bowling attack struggled to contain England’s relentless scoring.
