ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Information Ministry on Monday said that mischievous social media handles are circulating misleading claims of fabricated unrest in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, using AI-generated visuals, old footage, and unrelated videos.
“The circulated material includes, like, factory fires, protests over load shedding, and footage from Syria etc; all mis-captioned to manufacture an impression of chaos,” the Information Ministry said in a post on X.
The ministry added that Afghan and Indian accounts are also amplifying this narrative in coordination with vested political accounts, which further confirms a coordinated, foreign-driven propaganda.

Earlier on Sunday, the federal cabinet approved emergency measures and the imposition of Governor’s Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa amid rising terrorist attacks and growing security concerns in the province.
President Asif Ali Zardari signed the summary forwarded by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif after the federal cabinet approved the move to impose emergency measures in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The government cited Articles 232 and 234 of Pakistan’s Constitution, which deal with the proclamation of an emergency and the exercise of constitutional powers in circumstances where a provincial government is unable to function in accordance with the Constitution.
However, shortly after the development, fake, AI-generated images started circulating on social media platforms, prompting confusion among the public.
