ISLAMABAD: The first meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of National Coordinators (CNC) has concluded in Islamabad with reaffirmation of commitment to the organisation’s goals and to advancing its objectives through continued engagement and practical cooperation.
The meeting under Pakistan’s Chairmanship was held in Islamabad from 28–30 September 2026 and attended by National Coordinators from SCO Member States and representatives of the SCO Secretariat.
During the three-day meeting, the National Coordinators reviewed the programme of planned activities, took stock of the progress on key initiatives, and discussed preparations for forthcoming SCO meetings and events, the Pakistan Foreign Office said in a statement on Wednesday.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to exchange views on strengthening the coordination among member states and ensuring effective implementation of Pakistan’s chairmanship priorities, in line with its theme, “Turning Vision into Action: Connectivity, Innovation and Shared Prosperity.”

The delegation also visited the Naseer Bunda Hockey Stadium, where they were briefed on the arrangements for hosting the SCO Hockey Tournament from 20th November to 02nd December 2026, as well as, the preparations being undertaken for the event, as part of Pakistan’s SCO Chairmanship.
The participating National Coordinators called on the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 30th September.
Pakistan Deputy PM reaffirms commitment to inclusive SCO chairmanship
Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar reaffirmed Islamabad’s commitment to an open, inclusive and constructive SCO Chairmanship, guided by the ‘Shanghai Spirit’ of mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality, consultation and common development.
He expressed the commitment while addressing National Coordinators of SCO member states, along with senior representatives of the SCO Secretariat and the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad on Wednesday.

He highlighted the theme of Pakistan’s Chairmanship, “Turning Vision into Action: Connectivity, Innovation, and Shared Prosperity”, and stressed the need to translate the SCO’s shared vision into practical cooperation and tangible outcomes.
The Deputy Prime Minister also highlighted preparations for Pakistan to host the SCO Council of Heads of State Summit in Islamabad next year and called for close coordination among member states to ensure a successful Chairmanship.
Pakistan assumes SCO chairmanship in Sept
Pakistan assumed the chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Council of Heads of State (SCO-CHS) for 2027 during the organisation’s annual summit in Kyrgyzstan in September.
Speaking at the summit, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif proposed an “excellent plan” focusing on key areas including information technology and artificial intelligence, energy development, poverty reduction, disaster management, health, culture and sports.

He called for translating the SCO’s vision into action and its commitments into tangible progress, while advocating greater regional connectivity.
Collectively, the bloc represents around 40 percent of the world’s population and accounts for a substantial share of global economic output, making it one of the largest regional organisations by geographic coverage and population.
Since becoming a full member in 2017, Pakistan has steadily strengthened its engagement within the organisation. It successfully hosted the SCO Council of Heads of Government Meeting in Islamabad in 2024 and is currently holding the chairmanship of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS) for 2025-26.
Pakistan has also played an active role within the organisation, including hosting the SCO Council of Heads of Government meeting in Islamabad in October 2024. The country is currently chairing the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure for the 2025-26 term.
