WASHINGTON: Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan has met with Chairman of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Senator Jim Risch, and discussed ongoing efforts to promote regional security and stability.
Ranking Member of the committee, Senator Jeanne Shaheen, was also present at the meeting held in Washington during the Foreign Minister’s official visit to the United States of America, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Wednesday.
The meeting addressed bilateral relations, explored ways to strengthen cooperation between the two nations, and covered the latest regional developments.
Saudi FM, US Senators discuss defence and security cooperation
Prince Faisal also met with the Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee Roger Wicker, and its ranking member, Jack Reed.
During the meeting, they discussed bilateral defence and security coordination and cooperation, as well as the latest regional developments and efforts to support regional security and stability, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
Earlier on Tuesday, Prince Faisal met with the Chairman of the US Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, Tom Cotton, in Washington.
The meeting addressed the latest political and security developments and ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in relevant areas, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
The meetings were attended by the Kingdom’s Ambassador to the US, Princess Reema bint Bandar.
Saudi Arabia, US stress maritime security in key waterways
On Monday, Prince Faisal met US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, where the two sides stressed the importance of safeguarding maritime security and freedom of navigation, particularly through the Strait of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab.
They discussed the strategic Saudi-US relationship and ways to further strengthen and develop bilateral ties across various fields in support of mutual interests.
They also exchanged views on regional and international developments, including security and political issues in the region, the situation in Yemen, and ongoing efforts to address it.

Prince Faisal is visiting the US after leading the Kingdom’s delegation to the United Nations General Assembly.
Foreign Minister meets US Representative to UN
Prince Faisal on Tuesday also held a meeting with US Representative to the United Nations Michael Waltz, in the presence of Senior Advisor to the US President for Arab and African Affairs Massad Boulos.

They reviewed relations between the Kingdom and the United States and discussed ways to enhance cooperation, as well as the latest regional developments and efforts to reach comprehensive and sustainable political solutions, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
Saudi FM addresses UN General Assembly
It is pertinent to mention that the Saudi Foreign Minister addressed the General Debate of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly on Saturday.
He appreciated the peace and de-escalation efforts by Pakistan, Qatar and other countries, as he warned that escalating tensions in the Middle East posed risks to international peace, energy security and global trade.
He said Saudi Arabia and other countries in the region had been subjected to “flagrant Iranian attacks” targeting security resources as well as civilian and economic facilities.
He reaffirmed the Kingdom’s right to protect its security and sovereignty, along with its citizens, residents, and national resources, while urging the international community to confront threats to international peace and security.
