ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will take on Bangladesh in the semi-final of the men’s cricket competition at the Asian Games on Thursday, with the weather potentially playing a decisive role as the forecast points to fair conditions but a washout would send Pakistan through to the gold-medal match by virtue of their higher seeding.

The match is scheduled to be played in Nisshin, where rain disrupted the quarter-final stage of the competition. However, the forecast for Thursday is for a very warm and sunny day, raising hopes of a full contest between the two sides.
Pakistan and Bangladesh are among the four teams that received direct entry into the Asian Games men’s cricket quarter-finals along with India and Sri Lanka.
Pakistan will rely heavily on captain Sahibzada Farhan to provide firepower at the top of the order. Farhan has been a key run-scorer in T20 cricket, while Maaz Sadaqat, Saim Ayub, Usman Khan and Hasan Nawaz provide further batting options in the middle order.
Maaz Sadaqat also enters the competition in strong form after scoring two centuries in the Caribbean Premier League, while Saim Ayub and Arafat Minhas add further options with the bat.

Bangladesh, meanwhile, will look towards their experienced top order, led by captain and wicketkeeper Litton Das. Tanzid Hasan has also been in impressive form, having recently scored a Test century in Australia, while Towhid Hridoy brings confidence after an unbeaten 350 for Bangladesh A in a four-day match in South Africa.

Bangladesh’s bowling attack appears well equipped for the conditions, with international experience among their spin options. Rishad Hossain, Nasum Ahmed, Mahedi Hasan and Mosaddek Hossain could play important roles, while the pace attack features Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam and Hasan Mahmud.

For Pakistan, Sufyan Moqim will be one of the players to watch with the ball after an impressive Caribbean Premier League campaign in which he claimed 12 wickets in five innings, including four-wicket hauls in his final two matches. Abrar Ahmed also provides Pakistan with an attacking spin option.
Farhan, Mustafizur key figures in semi-final
Pakistan will look towards Sahibzada Farhan for an aggressive start at the top of the order, while Bangladesh will expect experienced left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman to lead their bowling attack.
Farhan has been among Pakistan’s leading T20 run-scorers this year and has recorded scores of 74 and 63 in four T20 internationals against Bangladesh, making his battle with the Bangladesh bowling attack one of the key contests of the semi-final.

Mustafizur, meanwhile, remains an important part of Bangladesh’s white-ball bowling unit, particularly during the death overs. His contest against Farhan and Pakistan’s middle-order batters could have a significant bearing on the match.
