NISSHIN, Japan: Pakistan secured their second bronze medal at the 2026 Asian Games after the women’s cricket team defeated Bangladesh by 31 runs in the third-place play-off at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin on Tuesday.

The achievement came a day after mixed martial artist Asim Khan won Pakistan’s first medal of the Games, also a bronze, in the men’s Modern MMA -60kg category.

Pakistan posted 145 for eight in their allotted 20 overs before restricting Bangladesh to 114 for seven, completing a 31-run victory and securing the bronze medal.
Fatima Sana and Umm-e-Hani lead Pakistan to podium finish
Captain Fatima Sana played a crucial all-round role, top-scoring with 45 off 30 balls, including three fours and three sixes, before taking one wicket. Her partnership with Aliya Riaz helped Pakistan recover from 67 for five and post a competitive total.

Spinner Umm-e-Hani then produced the decisive bowling performance, claiming three wickets for just 10 runs as Pakistan kept Bangladesh under pressure throughout the chase. Sharmin Akhter top-scored for Bangladesh with an unbeaten 46, while captain Nigar Sultana made 25.

The bronze is Pakistan women’s third medal in Asian Games cricket, following gold-medal triumphs in 2010 in Guangzhou and 2014 in Incheon. Pakistan finished fourth at the 2022 Hangzhou Games after losing the bronze-medal match to Bangladesh.

The latest victory therefore puts Pakistan back on the women’s cricket podium and also adds a second bronze to the country’s medal tally at the Aichi-Nagoya Games.
