NEW YORK: Saudi Arabia has contributed more than $3.4 billion to 1,289 humanitarian and relief projects across 88 countries, the Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief), Dr Abdullah Al Rabeeah, said.
He made the remarks during a high-level panel discussion titled “United Against Hunger: Realigning Global Action for Food Crises in Times of Disruption”, jointly organised by Germany, the World Food Programme and the Global Network Against Food Crises on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Wednesday.

Al Rabeeah stressed that preventing food insecurity should be a global priority, with greater emphasis on systematic prevention and strengthening long-term resilience rather than focusing solely on managing immediate crises.
Saudi Arabia tackles global food insecurity
He said Saudi Arabia, through KSrelief, has played a key role in addressing food insecurity worldwide by responding to urgent humanitarian needs while supporting sustainable solutions.
The Kingdom is helping countries address food shortages and strengthen long-term food security through programmes aimed at building local capacity, increasing community food production and improving supply chains.

Al Rabeeah highlighted KSrelief’s ongoing efforts to combat food insecurity, including support for the Central Kitchen Project and food basket projects in the Gaza Strip; the “Seed” initiative, which strengthens the resilience and recovery capacity of affected rural communities; and the “Rehabilitation of Damaged Bakeries” project in Syria, which has helped more than 1.4 million people.
