NEW YORK: Pakistan and Saudi Arabia on Tuesday reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar met Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly.
The two foreign ministers discussed matters pertaining to the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement and reiterated their resolve to advance regional peace, stability and security through enhanced bilateral defence and security cooperation.
The meeting underscored the deeply rooted and brotherly ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to further strengthening the longstanding relationship.
The two ministers welcomed the signing of an agreement providing mutual exemption from visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and official/special passports. Deputy PM Dar expressed Pakistan’s steadfast solidarity with Saudi Arabia and condemned the recent attacks targeting the Kingdom.
The two sides also stressed the importance of sustained high-level exchanges and continued close coordination on bilateral and regional matters of mutual interest. The meeting took place as Pakistan and Saudi Arabia continue to deepen strategic coordination amid heightened regional security challenges.

The 81st session of the UN General Assembly opened its high-level General Debate on September 22 at UN Headquarters in New York, bringing together heads of state, heads of government and other senior representatives to discuss major international and regional issues.
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar are participating in the high-level proceedings, with Pakistan using the forum to engage with international partners on matters of bilateral, regional and global importance.
The General Debate is being held from September 22 to 26 and on September 28 under the theme “Restoring trust, managing transformation: a United Nations that delivers for all”.
