ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has stressed the need for full implementation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) framework by all parties to end the conflict between the United States and Iran.
Deputy PM Dar made the remarks during a meeting with the Foreign Minister of Egypt Dr. Badr Abdelatty, on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly in New York on Monday, the Foreign Office said.
“The discussions also covered regional and international developments, including the prevailing situation in the Middle East and Iran,” said the statement.
The two Ministers underscored the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in addressing regional challenges.

The US and Iran signed the Pakistan-brokered Islamabad MoU in June to halt fighting and start technical-level negotiations for a comprehensive agreement between Washington and Tehran.
Under the Islamabad MoU, the US and Iran committed to halt military operations, reopen the Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping and negotiate a comprehensive agreement covering Iran’s nuclear programme, US sanctions and a permanent ceasefire within 60 days.
Pakistan mediated talks between Iran and the United States after helping secure a ceasefire on April 8 and hosted high-level talks between the two sides in Islamabad on April 12 and 13.
Pakistan-Egypt to further strengthen bilateral cooperation
According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the two Ministers reaffirmed the longstanding fraternal ties between Pakistan and Egypt and expressed commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation in diverse areas, including trade and investment, economic cooperation, education, cultural exchanges and people-to-people contacts.
The two sides also reaffirmed the importance of continued consultations under the Regional Four (R4) framework and agreed to further deepen coordination on issues of common interest. They stressed the importance of continued international cooperation and effective multilateralism in addressing common global challenges.
Ishaq Dar reaffirms Pakistan’s support for Palestine
Ishaq Dar also met with the Permanent Observer of Palestine to the United Nations, Ambassador Riyad Mansour at the UN Headquarters in New York.
He reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people, including their inalienable right to self-determination and an independent, contiguous and sovereign Palestinian State, the Foreign Office said.
He added that Pakistan will continue to strongly raise the issue during UNGA and at all relevant forums, including in bilateral engagements on the sidelines, and advance international efforts for an immediate end to the suffering in Gaza and a just and lasting peace.

Earlier, Ishaq Dar held meetings with the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France Jean-Noël Barrot and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and Vice-President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas.
Ishaq Dar arrives in New York to attend 81st UNGA session
Deputy Prime Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar arrived in New York on Monday to participate in the High-Level Week of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

According to the Foreign Office, the Deputy Prime Minister has a full programme of high-level engagements in the week ahead.
He will participate in ministerial forums and deliver Pakistan’s statements and interventions on key issues of importance to Pakistan, including bilateral, regional and international priorities across the UN agenda.
Alongside accompanying the Prime Minister, he will hold a series of bilateral meetings with his counterparts and participate in a range of high-level engagements on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
