ISLAMABAD: Muslim nations and Islamic bodies on Wednesday strongly condemned recent Houthi attacks targeting Saudi Arabia, including an attempted drone strike on Makkah, and expressed solidarity with the Kingdom.
Official Spokesperson of the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen, Major General Turki Al-Malki, in a statement, said the Royal Saudi Air Defence Forces intercepted and destroyed a hostile drone on Tuesday evening launched by the terrorist Houthi militia before it entered the prohibited airspace of the Holy City of Makkah. The hostile drone was intercepted in southern Makkah.
“This hostile and terrorist act is the second attempt to target Makkah, following the first attempt with a ballistic missile on July 27, 2017,” he said.
He described the act as an attempt to target the birthplace of revelation, the land of the message, and the destination that draws the hearts of millions of Muslims from around the world.
OIC condemns Houthi attacks on Makkah
The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has condemned “heinous attacks” carried out by the Houthi group against Makkah and the Madinah region, as well as its continued aggression against Saudi Arabia.
In a statement, the OIC General Secretariat said the attacks had instilled fear among innocent civilians, violated the sanctity of Islamic holy sites and mosques, and provoked the sentiments of Muslims around the world.

It said the Houthi group’s actions targeting holy sites, mosques, and civilian infrastructure “constitute terrorism” and were incompatible with Islamic values and international norms, principles, and law.
The OIC stressed that any violation of the sanctity of Islamic holy sites was unacceptable and intolerable, calling for measures to deter those responsible and prevent further attacks against the sites.
Muslim World League
The Muslim World League also condemned the Houthi attacks targeting Makkah and the Madinah region, as well as continued attacks against Saudi Arabia.
Its Secretary-General Mohammed Al-Issa condemned the Houthi militia’s “terrorist approach” and attacks on mosques, schools and other civilian sites, describing them as violations of Islamic values and humanitarian principles.

Al-Issa called on Islamic countries and the international community to condemn the attacks, saying they threatened Muslim lives and Islamic holy sites.
He also reaffirmed the Muslim World League’s solidarity with Saudi Arabia and support for measures taken by the Kingdom to counter the attacks and protect its people and Islamic holy sites.
Kuwait
Kuwait also denounced the attempt to target Makkah with a drone launched by the Houthi militia, affirming that this cowardly and reprehensible act constitutes a violation of the sanctity of the Muslims’ qibla, a disregard for its religious status, and an affront to the sentiments of Muslims.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed Kuwait’s absolute solidarity with the Kingdom and its support for all measures it takes to safeguard its sovereignty and security, protect the Two Holy Mosques, and preserve their sanctity.

Jordan
Jordan also condemned the attempt to target Makkah with a drone launched by the Houthi militia.
It said that act is a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of of Saudi Arabia, a threat to its security and stability and the safety of its lands, a blatant breach of international law, and an unacceptable aggression that constitutes contempt for the status and sanctity of Makkah and an assault on the feelings of Muslims.
The spokesperson for the Ministry, Ambassador Fuad Al-Majali, affirmed Jorad’s absolute solidarity with the of Saudi Arabia, and its standing with it in all steps it takes to protect its security and stability and the safety of its citizens and residents therein.

Pakistan
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also strongly condemned an attempted drone attack targeting Makkah, reaffirming Pakistan’s support for Saudi Arabia and its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
In a post on X, Sharif described the attempted attack as a “cowardly and sinful” act and expressed Pakistan’s solidarity with the Kingdom.

Sharif said dialogue and diplomacy remained the only sustainable path to peace, while stressing Pakistan’s commitment to supporting Saudi Arabia’s security and efforts to contain regional escalation.
Malaysia
Malaysia’s prime minister said any attempt to threaten the safety and sanctity of Islam’s holiest city would be wholly unacceptable
“I view with grave concern reports that a drone was intercepted near Makkah al-Mukarramah,” Anwar Ibrahim said in a post on X.
He said Malaysia expresses its deep appreciation for the swift action taken by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to protect residents and pilgrims in Makkah.
He noted that this incident underscores the urgent need to prevent further escalation in the region. Malaysia called for an immediate end to attacks on civilian sites and to any action that could endanger holy sites.

Bangladesh
Bangladesh also strongly condemned the drone attack targeting the Holy City of Makkah Al-Mukarramah in Saudi Arabia.
It reaffirmed its deep respect for the sanctity of Makkah Al-Mukarramah and the other Holy Sites in the Kingdom, and expresses solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its people in protecting those.
Bangladesh underscored that the safety and security of the Holy Sites must be fully respected and protected at all times.
