ISLAMABAD: Pakistan have slipped to the bottom of the nine-team World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 standings after England completed a comprehensive 3-0 series whitewash with an eight-wicket victory in the third Test at Edgbaston on Saturday.
The defeat compounded a disastrous Test tour for Pakistan, who managed just two victories in nine matches in the ongoing WTC cycle and now sit ninth with only 16 points and a points percentage of 14.81.
England dominated Pakistan throughout the three-match series, winning the opening Test by an innings and 103 runs at Headingley, the second by 194 runs at Lord’s and the final Test by eight wickets at Edgbaston.
Pakistan endured another batting collapse in the first innings at Edgbaston, being bowled out for just 133 inside two sessions. It was the fifth time in the series that Pakistan failed to reach the 200-run mark in an innings.

The visitors fought back strongly in the second innings, scoring 449 runs, with half-centuries from Azan Awais, Shan Masood, Babar Azam and debutant Razaullah.
Razaullah also produced one of the highlights of Pakistan’s campaign with an aggressive lower-order innings, but his effort could not prevent England from taking control of the match.

England had earlier secured a massive 320-run first-innings lead after five of their batters registered half-centuries.

Chasing 130 for victory, England were rocked early when Pakistan seamer Mohammad Abbas dismissed Ben Duckett and Emilio Gay for ducks in the opening over.
However, Joe Root and Jordan Cox steadied the innings with unbeaten half-centuries to guide England home. Root scored 62 not out, while Cox remained unbeaten on 59.

The result leaves Pakistan facing a difficult road ahead in the WTC cycle, with their 14.81 per cent points percentage placing them well behind the other eight teams.
In August 2016, Pakistan were on top of the world, reaching No. 1 in the ICC Test team rankings for the first time.
Ten years later, they are in crisis.
