BIRMINGHAM: Pakistan’s Razaullah made history on his Test debut on Friday, equalling New Zealand’s Tim Southee’s record for the most sixes hit by a player in their first match in the longest format.
The 21-year-old produced a remarkable innings during Pakistan’s second innings in the third Test against England at Edgbaston, smashing nine sixes and four fours in an aggressive 81-run knock from just 63 deliveries.
Razaullah had struggled in his first Test innings, scoring only 11 runs from 11 balls. However, he made a strong comeback in the second innings, playing an attacking innings that placed him alongside Southee in the record books.
Razaullah joins elite Test debut list
Southee had also hit nine sixes on his Test debut against England in 2008, setting the previous record. Razaullah’s achievement also became the highest number of sixes by a debutant in an away Test match.

Before Razaullah, the record belonged to West Indies batter Kyle Mayers, who struck seven sixes during his Test debut against Bangladesh in 2021.

Razaullah’s explosive performance also helped Pakistan reach a significant team milestone. Pakistan hit 12 sixes in their second innings against England, matching their joint third-highest tally of sixes in a Test innings.
Pakistan’s highest number of sixes in a Test innings remains 15, achieved against New Zealand in Lahore in 2002.
