ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has said that any attack by the Houthi militia on Saudi Arabia would be considered an attack on Pakistan.
Speaking in an interview with WE News reporter Luqman Shah, the Defence Minister said Pakistan would regard aggression against Saudi Arabia as an attack against the country.
Earlier, spokesman for the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen (Coalition Forces), Major General Turki Al-Malki, said that terrorist Houthi militia attacks on the cities of Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan, and Najran injured 73 civilians, including women and children.
On August 7, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye signed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement to strengthen collective deterrence against any act of aggression, which stipulated that an armed attack against any of the three countries would be regarded as an attack on all.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan signed the agreement.
On August 31, during the inaugural meeting of the Strategic Political and Defence Committee under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement held in Istanbul, the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement was renamed the “Makkah Defence Alliance”, with its secretariat to be based in Riyadh.
The first Secretary General of the Makkah Defence Alliance will be from Pakistan for three years.
Pakistan Condemns Houthi Attacks on Saudi Arabia
Earlier on Tuesday, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the Houthi attacks targeting civilian and energy facilities in Saudi Arabia, reaffirming Pakistan’s steadfast support for the Kingdom’s sovereignty, security and territorial integrity.
Prime Minister Sharif expressed Pakistan’s solidarity with Saudi Arabia after the attacks left dozens of people injured.

In a statement posted on X, the prime minister said he condemned the attacks “in the strongest terms” and stood firmly with the Saudi leadership and people.

Pakistan Stands with Saudi Arabia
Prime Minister Sharif expressed solidarity with Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, and the “brotherly people” of Saudi Arabia.
He said attacks targeting civilian and economic infrastructure threatened innocent lives and undermined peace and security across the region.

The prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s “steadfast support” for Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity. He also prayed for the swift recovery of all those injured in the attacks.
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia maintain longstanding strategic and diplomatic relations, with Islamabad repeatedly expressing support for the Kingdom’s security and territorial integrity.
