MOSCOW: President Vladimir Putin has ordered a three-day suspension of Russian strikes on Kyiv for a visit to the Ukrainian capital by US President Donald Trump’s envoys, the Kremlin said on Saturday.
“The Russian president and commander in chief… has given the order not to strike Kyiv for three days from midnight tonight,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov was quoted as saying by state news agency TASS as US envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff prepared to head from Moscow to Kyiv.
The announcement comes hours after the Trump administration’s envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner landed in Moscow for talks with Putin to bring peace.

Putin is due to meet US special representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner today.
The move marks Washington’s latest bid to break a diplomatic stalemate in Europe’s deadliest conflict since World War II, which began in 2022.
Trump’s proposal to end war
Trump also suggested on Friday that the US had “a fresh concrete proposal” aimed at ending the war, ongoing for four and a half years. However, he did not disclose the details of the proposal.
A private jet carrying President Donald Trump’s special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner touched down in Moscow on Saturday, according to Russian aviation sources cited by Interfex.
The flight follows an announcement by Trump on Friday that the delegation was traveling overseas in a renewed push to broker an end to the war between Russia and Ukraine.

They are also expected to travel to Kyiv on September 6.
Witkoff and Kusher’s trip comes more than a week after a rare visit to Moscow by CIA director John Ratcliffe, who warned Russia against any attack on NATO member states, according to US media.
Earlier this week, the United States welcomed the Russian finance minister at a G20 gathering in North Carolina.
Russia, Ukraine trade major drone strikes
Russia and Ukraine have traded large-scale overnight drone strikes, hitting targets far beyond the battlefield as the war enters another phase of intensified aerial attacks.
Ukrainian authorities said Russian drones struck central Kyiv and the southern Odesa region, killing one person and injuring at least 10 others, while Russian officials reported a major Ukrainian drone assault on the Black Sea resort city of Sochi and surrounding areas.
The attacks caused fires and damage to civilian and administrative infrastructure, underscoring the expanding reach of drone warfare as both sides continue to target strategic sites deep inside each other’s territory.
