RIYADH: Saudi Arabia is accelerating its transition from electronics importer to domestic manufacturer, with LEAP 2026 highlighting efforts to establish a comprehensive national semiconductor platform by 2030.
The push forms part of the Kingdom’s broader drive to strengthen technological independence, secure critical supply chains and develop advanced industrial capabilities at home.
At the technology event, Pioneers of Industry for Electronic Systems (PIESCO) showcased its efforts to turn the hardware requirements of Saudi Arabia’s defence, industrial and technology sectors into locally designed and manufactured electronic products.
Saudi Arabia Builds Domestic Tech Capabilities
PIESCO representative Fayez Al-Harbi said the company was working to ensure electronic products are designed and manufactured entirely within Saudi Arabia, reflecting the Kingdom’s growing emphasis on localisation.

The strategy goes beyond domestic production. It aims to build Saudi expertise capable of competing in regional and international markets while reducing reliance on imported technology and vulnerable external supply chains.
Semiconductors are critical components across modern industries, including communications, computing, defence systems, automobiles and advanced manufacturing, making domestic capabilities increasingly important for technological and economic security.
The showcase at LEAP 2026 underscores Saudi Arabia’s ambition to develop an integrated technology ecosystem rather than remain dependent on imported electronics.
By combining local manufacturing, skills development, and supply chain security, the Kingdom is positioning advanced electronics and semiconductors as key pillars of its long-term economic transformation and technological competitiveness.
