LAHORE: In a landmark decision aimed at easing bureaucratic hurdles for ordinary citizens, the Punjab government in Pakistan has extended the fee-free late registration period for births and deaths by an additional three years, amending the Birth and Death Rules 2025 to provide much-needed relief to families across the country’s most populous province.
The provincial administration, through a formal gazette notification, has confirmed that citizens across Punjab can now register delayed births and deaths without paying any applicable late fee during the extended waiver period.

Punjab Local Government Secretary Zaid Bin Maqsood has issued immediate directives to the Director General of Local Government for province-wide implementation of the amended rules.
